Systemic biases, disparities in care and people with ADHD

Sadly, if you or your child belong to an ethnic or minority group, you might have noticed that ADHD is sometimes diagnosed and treated differently.40 Health care providers sometimes overlook ADHD symptoms in Black and Latino children.41 Even when they are diagnosed, Asian and Hispanic children often don't get treatment as often as White and Black children. 40

This means these kids may not get the help they need.

It's very important to speak up for yourself or your child, especially if you're from an ethnic or minoritized background. This might lead to earlier detection and treatment of ADHD, which may make the problems you or your child face because of ADHD more manageable sooner.41
